Who is delivering the project?

(JPG) Devon County Council is the largest local authority in the south west of England. The council works to support a sustainable and viable agricultural sector through a wide range of exciting projects and initiatives.

There are a number of issues that need to be supported to help develop the local food sector. These include, improving communication and understanding within the local food sector and with consumers; developing more local sourcing; helping to make the supply chain more efficient; and improving skills within the sector. A wide range of organisations are working to address these issues.

(JPG) The Soil Association is the UK's leading environmental charity committed to raising awareness of the benefits of organic farming and helping people to understand the links between farming practices, the environment, food and health. It plays a crucial role in the transformation of attitudes to food and farming in the UK and internationally. It works with the public, farmers, growers, food processors and retailers, consumers and policy makers. As both a not-for-profit membership charity and a certification body, the Soil Association is uniquely positioned to promote organic food and farming through the provision of crucial services to organic farmers, businesses and consumers alike.

At a local level, the Soil Association is working to grow the organic sector by supporting organic farmers and processors and developing the supply of local organic produce into schools, hospitals, youth hostels and the hospitality sector. It produces high quality education resources for schools and runs popular workshops in schools. The Soil Association is committed to supporting the development of a thriving local food sector in order to bring far reaching benefits to the local economy, environment and health of local communities.
